Khartoum: The Commander of the Red Sea Military Zone, General Mahjoub Bushra, briefed diplomatic and consular missions, along with representatives of international and regional organizations accredited in Sudan, at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Portsudan on Sunday. He provided an update on the recent security developments following an attack on the city.
According to Sudan News Agency, Bushra reported that Portsudan was attacked at 3:30 a.m. on Sunday morning. The assault, which lasted until 7:00 a.m., involved drones targeting the radar station in Flamingo, the Osman Digna Air Base, and significant civilian strategic facilities.
General Bushra confirmed that the air defense systems successfully intercepted all 11 suicide drones, neutralizing the threat. Some drones fell into the sea as a result of the measures taken, while seven have been recovered.
During the engagement, a strategic drone attacked the Osman Digna Air Base, resulting in material damage but no human casualties. There were minor injuries reported among the base personnel. Bushra explained that the purpose of the suicide drone attack was to divert attention from the strategic drone assault on the air base.
Bushra assured that the situation is under control, stating, “We are capable of confronting such drones.”
