New York:Sudan has expressed its gratitude for the support of various countries in maintaining its sovereignty and unity while calling for accountability over militia violations. During an address to the United Nations General Assembly, Sudan's Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Ambassador Mohi-Eddin Salem, specifically acknowledged the assistance from nations including Saudi Arabia, Egypt, Qatar, Turkey, Kuwait, Oman, Iraq, Japan, Pakistan, Russia, China, Indonesia, Malaysia, Morocco, and Algeria.
According to Sudan News Agency, Ambassador Salem called upon the international community to pursue legal action against those responsible for militia offenses, emphasizing the recent surge of global solidarity with Darfur. This call comes in the wake of the Dagalo family militia's takeover of El-Fashir and corroborated evidence presented by the Sultan of the Masalit to the UN Security Council. He highlighted the need for these measures to prevent further escalation and curb violations in the regions of Darfur, Kordofan, and Blue Nile.
The ambassador criticized the UN Security Council's failure to publicly condemn the regional and foreign sponsors of the militias, accusing these sponsors of facilitating foreign mercenary involvement and providing political protection for militia activities. He alleged that these sponsors also fund media platforms that spread misinformation against the Sudanese Armed Forces.
Ambassador Salem stated that throughout the conflict, the Sudanese Armed Forces have adhered to principles protecting civilians and distinguishing between combatants and non-combatants. He outlined Sudan's commitment to safeguarding civilian areas, respecting humanitarian movement, and refraining from recruiting children or engaging in enforced disappearances.
Ending the conflict, according to the minister, requires international pressure on neighboring countries that have facilitated the supply of weapons and allowed militia operations from their territories. He also emphasized the centrality of the Palestinian cause in Middle Eastern politics, advocating for Palestinian self-determination and the establishment of an independent state.
Furthermore, the minister stressed the importance of regional stability in the Red Sea, Bab Al-Mandab, and the Gulf, advocating for peaceful resolution of conflicts that align with international law and respect for sovereign states.
