Sudan’s Foreign Minister Calls for End to Foreign Interference and Disarmament of Militias

Khartoum:Sudan's Foreign Minister and International Cooperation Ambassador, Mohi-Eddin Salem, emphasized that achieving a comprehensive, lasting, and just peace in Sudan necessitates halting foreign interference and the influx of weapons, ammunition, and mercenaries into the country. He also called for dismantling the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) militia and stopping its attacks on civilians and infrastructure. According to Sudan News Agency, in his address to the 81st session of the United Nations General Assembly in New York, the Foreign Minister stressed the importance of disarming militias and ensuring weapons are controlled by the state and its legitimate institutions. He highlighted the progress made by the Sudanese government in protecting civilians and advancing peacebuilding efforts. The Minister underscored that peace and stability in Sudan are unattainable as long as the Dagalo family militia's war persists, exacerbated by foreign interventions targeting Sudan's strategic and resource-rich position . He criticized the international community for its silence and lack of action against documented atrocities by the militia, as well as its failure to curb the supply of weapons and mercenaries supporting the conflict. Ambassador Salem argued that responding to the Sudanese government's demands is essential for ending the war and safeguarding civilians. He accused the international community of applying double standards by equating the national army with militias and ignoring the need to designate the RSF as a terrorist organization. The Foreign Minister condemned the international community's inaction over the militia's atrocities, describing it as both unethical and a betrayal of the Sudanese people, particularly women and girls who have shown remarkable resilience amidst immense suffering.
