Omdurman: A national workshop on the academic calendar concluded its sessions in Omdurman with recommendations to designate September as the start of the school year and April as its end across all Sudanese states. States with exceptional circumstances will be granted up to one year to align with the unified calendar.
According to Sudan News Agency, the workshop, attended by state education ministers and supervised by Undersecretary of the Ministry of Education and National Orientation Dr. Ahmed Khalifa Omar, discussed key challenges facing the education system and proposed solutions to enhance stability and quality.
Dr. Omar stated that the forum adopted several recommendations, including establishing a federal-state mechanism to coordinate the work of education-related organizations, addressing shortages of teachers and textbooks, improving school environments, and providing adequate seating for students.
He noted that the past three years had seen extensive destruction of schools by rebel militias but affirmed the ministry’s commitment to restoring the sector with government backing and support from friendly nations and international partners.
The recommendations will be submitted to Minister of Education Dr. Al-Tohami Al-Zein Hajar, who will present them to the Cabinet for approval as part of efforts to stabilize and rebuild Sudan’s education system.
