Khartoum:Sudan's Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research, Dr. Ahmed Modawi Musa, met with Robert Floyd, Executive Secretary of the Preparatory Commission for the Comprehensive Nuclear-Test-Ban Treaty Organization (CTBTO), during the 70th General Conference of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA).
According to Sudan News Agency, Dr. Musa praised the cooperation between Sudan and CTBTO in earthquake monitoring. He informed Mr. Floyd about the recent developments in Sudan, including the resumption of government operations from Khartoum, and the extensive damage to state institutions, notably the National Data Center of the Remote Sensing and Seismology Authority.
Dr. Musa requested the CTBTO to send a technical team to assess the damage and estimate the costs for reconstruction. He also sought technical support for the authority, including the provision of monitoring equipment, software, data-link systems, power systems, and training courses for staff, to restore the center's capacity in data monitoring and exchange.
Mr. Floyd acknowledged the situation in Sudan and concurred with the need for a technical team to visit as soon as conditions allow. He committed to maintaining collaboration with Sudan and providing the necessary support to help the institutions fulfill their roles.
He instructed his team responsible for the Sudan portfolio to work with both the mission in Vienna and the center in Sudan to coordinate efforts.
