El-fashir: The League of Arab States, the Arab Republic of Egypt, the State of Qatar, and the Muslim World League strongly condemned the attack carried out by the rebel Rapid Support Forces (RSF) militia on Al-Daraja neighborhood mosque in El-Fashir during dawn prayers on Friday, which resulted in the killing of more than seventy-five worshippers and left dozens injured.
According to Sudan News Agency, the assault was denounced as a blatant violation of human rights and a continuation of the crimes of the Dagalo family militia in defiance of international laws and norms. In a statement, the Arab League condemned the attack on the mosque that left dozens of worshippers dead, renewing its call for lifting the siege on El-Fashir, which has lasted for more than a year and a half despite Security Council Resolution 2736 (2024). The League emphasized the importance of protecting civilians and facilitating the delivery of humanitarian aid.
Egypt also condemned the attack, voicing its deep rejection and denunciation of the targeting of the mosque, which resulted in dozens of deaths and injuries. In a statement issued by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Migration, Cairo stressed that the attack represents a flagrant violation of international humanitarian law, and strongly rejected the targeting of places of worship and innocent civilians.
Qatar, in turn, expressed its strong condemnation and denunciation of the attack, describing it as a ‘serious violation of international humanitarian law.’ The Qatari Foreign Ministry reaffirmed Doha’s firm position of rejecting violence and terrorism in all its forms, extending condolences to the Government of Sudan and the families of the victims, wishing a speedy recovery to the injured.
The Muslim World League also denounced the attack ‘in the strongest terms,’ describing the targeting of the mosque as a ‘treacherous act that contravenes all religious and humanitarian values.’ In its statement, the League stressed the need to adhere to international law, expressing full solidarity with the Sudanese people, affirming readiness to mobilize resources to alleviate their suffering.
Meanwhile, UN Secretary-General Ant³nio Guterres expressed deep concern over the humanitarian situation in El-Fashir, North Darfur, calling for unimpeded humanitarian access.
