Khartoum: The Undersecretary of the Federal Ministry of Health, Dr. Ali Babiker Sidahmed, recently held a meeting with Dr. Mohamed Al-Amin Abumanga, the Regional Director of the Sudanese American Physicians Association (SABA). The meeting, attended by the leadership of SABA’s Sudan office, was convened to assess the organization’s contributions to the health sector during the ongoing war.
According to Sudan News Agency, Dr. Sidahmed commended SABA for its work, emphasizing its role in providing direct health services and supporting environmental health, food provision, medical training, and hospital operations. He also expressed the Ministry’s willingness to collaborate with SABA in the reconstruction efforts and urged the organization to align its efforts with the Ministry’s five-year health strategy.
Dr. Abumanga acknowledged the Ministry’s efforts in preserving the stability of the health system amidst the conflict and reiterated SABA’s dedication to humanitarian support and the rehabilitation of damaged health facilities. He also emphasized the importance of Sudanese doctors working abroad and highlighted the Ministry’s leadership in establishing national health priorities.
SABA’s Country Director, Dr. Faisal Ahmed Al-Nour, reported that the organization is committed to providing sustainable support despite ongoing challenges. He revealed that SABA has implemented over 25 projects in cooperation with UNICEF and WHO, rehabilitating 70 health centers and several major hospitals. Dr. Al-Nour also announced the imminent operational status of the oxygen plant at Bahri Hospital, made possible with SABA’s assistance.
