Undersecretary of Animal Resources Announces Five-Year Plan to Develop Livestock Sector

Khartoum: The Undersecretary of the Ministry of Animal Resources and Fisheries, Dr. Ammar Al-Sheikh Idris, announced that the ministry has formulated a comprehensive five-year plan for 2026-2030 aimed at developing and advancing Sudan's livestock and fisheries sector.

According to Sudan News Agency, Dr. Idris said the plan targets increasing export volumes and implementing livestock breeding improvement projects to boost production and productivity. It also includes the local production and manufacturing of vaccines to achieve self-sufficiency and enable exports.

He added that the plan encompasses projects designed to support productive families, increase household incomes, and reduce poverty levels.

Dr. Idris further indicated that the plan includes initiatives related to rangelands and fodder improvement, as well as strengthening veterinary extension services and expanding outreach to pastoral communities.

He explained that the plan also incorporates livestock production cities across all states of Sudan, noting that implementation has already commenced in the states of River Nile, White Nile, Kassala, Red Sea, Al-Gadarif, Sennar, and Al-Gezira.

The Undersecretary pointed out that Al-Gezira State will host ten livestock production cities due to the presence of Al-Gezira Scheme, with part of the scheme allocated to livestock production. He detailed that northern Al-Gezira will focus on dairy production and animal breeding, Al-Hassahessa on meat and dairy production, Al-Managil on meat production and processing, and Wad Al-Bilal area-considered highly promising-on comprehensive livestock production activities.

He affirmed that implementation in Al-Gezira will begin with one model city to serve as a prototype for the remaining planned cities.
