Khartoum Wali Briefs EU Official on Damage to Service Facilities

Khartoum: The Wali of Khartoum State, Ahmed Othman Hamza, met with the European Union Regional Director for Sub-Saharan Africa, Asia, Latin America, and the Pacific, Ms. Andrea Koulaimah, along with a number of EU officials in Sudan. The meeting, held at the Wali's office, was attended by the Director-General of the Ministry of Health, the Director of the Water Corporation, and the Humanitarian Aid Commissioner.According to Sudan News Agency, the Wali reviewed the ongoing efforts by the state government during the reconstruction phase, focusing on rehabilitating service institutions that have suffered widespread destruction. He highlighted that the damage to infrastructure was extensive and systematic, with acts of sabotage targeting essential facilities, including healthcare institutions, hospitals, and water and electricity stations, all crucial to daily life for citizens.The Wali emphasized that the state government has developed a comprehensive reconstruction plan aimed at gradually restoring vital se rvices. The plan prioritizes improving healthcare, water, and electricity services, especially in the most affected areas. He also underscored the significance of international partnerships to support these efforts and facilitate a quicker recovery process.Furthermore, the Wali urged the European Union delegation to communicate the true extent of destruction inflicted on civilian infrastructure and public assets to the international community, ensuring that the situation is portrayed with neutrality and transparency.Ms. Andrea Koulaimah acknowledged the Khartoum State Government's efforts under challenging circumstances and confirmed the European Union's commitment to supporting Sudan in both humanitarian and development sectors. She emphasized the importance of coordinating with government entities to maintain stability in the provision of essential services needed by the citizens.
