Khartoum: The Ministry of Industry and Trade announced the commencement of implementing Transitional Council of Ministers Decision No. (74) of 2026, issued on April 12, 2026, which provides for banning the import of certain luxury and non-essential goods, following the completion of all technical procedures related to its enforcement. According to Sudan News Agency, the Undersecretary of the Ministry of Industry and Trade stated that the number of items covered by the ban stands at approximately 34 goods, confirming that actual implementation of the decision will begin on May 10, 2026. The ministry noted that the decision does not apply to goods for which import procedures had commenced prior to the effective date of implementation. The list of banned non-essential goods includes ready-made dairy products (excluding powdered milk and infant formula), processed meats, fish (excluding fish fry/juvenile stock), biscuits, sweets and chocolate, jams, plastic bags, leather products (excluding footwear), carbonate d beverages, ready-made juices (liquid and powdered), zinc sheets, vegetables, table salt, tahini and ground sesame paste, instant vermicelli, animal feed, paints, laundry soap, poultry, ornamental fish, cut flowers and decorative buds, prepared food pastes, chips and snack foods, ice cream, fur and fur products, chain products, silk and silk fabrics, hats, artificial flowers and fruits, wigs, natural pearls and gemstones, traditional jewellery (bracelets), toys (excluding educational), and works of art and antiques.
