Khartoum: President of the Transitional Sovereignty Council (TSC) and Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces, General Abdel-Fattah Al-Burhan, has expressed the state’s endorsement of Khartoum State’s initiatives to bolster the health sector. He acknowledged the significant contributions of health workers who continue to deliver services under the challenging conditions of war, whether in secure zones or areas with enemy presence.
According to Sudan News Agency, General Al-Burhan’s visit to the Ministry of Health headquarters in Khartoum State and Al-Boluk Hospital underscored his appreciation for the ministry’s personnel and their efforts in epidemic control despite wartime adversities. He also lauded the Federal Minister of Health’s initiatives to enhance medical institutions and extended gratitude to allied nations for their support of the health sector.
The Wali of Khartoum State, Ahmed Osman Hamza, explained that the state is striving to make up for the loss of several medical facilities due to sabotage
by constructing new hospitals and health centers. This includes expanding and renovating existing hospitals like Al-Naw and Al-Boluk to become reference hospitals. He emphasized the importance of funding to restore hospital services in liberated areas and maintain infrastructure.
Additionally, Dr. Mohamed Ibrahim, Chairman of the Health Emergency Committee in Khartoum State, presented a health performance report for the war period. He noted that health indicators surpassed expectations based on World Health Organization standards. Dr. Ibrahim reported that 31 out of 54 hospitals are currently operational, along with 158 out of 243 health centers. He announced the treatment of over 33,000 wounded individuals and the execution of 22,000 free bullet extraction surgeries, while affirming the control of epidemics and readiness to open three new hospitals.
