London: Second Secretary Mohamed Osama Ibrahim, Consul at the Embassy of the Republic of Sudan in London, has been named Best African Consul in the United Kingdom for 2025. The accolade was awarded during the Annual Consular Work Conference organized by Embassy Networking for Diplomats, attended by the British Minister for Immigration and Citizenship, senior UK officials, and accredited diplomats.
According to Sudan News Agency, the award was the result of an open competition among diplomatic missions in London, which evaluated the performance of consular sections and the quality of services delivered to nationals residing in the UK. The Sudanese Embassy distinguished itself with several initiatives designed to improve service delivery to Sudanese citizens.
One of the key initiatives introduced by the embassy is the ‘Mobile Consular Missions’ program. This initiative has facilitated access to consular services for Sudanese citizens residing in 12 British cities, including Birmingham, Manchester, Liverpool, Glasgow, Edinburgh, and Belfast, among others. By providing consular services closer to citizens’ locations, the embassy alleviated the need for travel to London, thus easing the burden on the Sudanese diaspora.
Furthermore, the mission has actively engaged with the UK Home Office and other official bodies to provide assistance to Sudanese citizens, including students and medical professionals. The embassy has collaborated with the British Council and educational institutions to ensure the continuation of academic examinations, and supported Sudanese students through scholarship programs such as Chevening.
In addition to educational support, the embassy has been instrumental in facilitating the dispatch of six shipments of medicines and medical equipment to Sudan. It also organized a medical convoy comprising British doctors and assisted humanitarian organizations working to bolster Sudan’s health sector.
