Geneva: The Director of Health Emergencies and Epidemic Control at the Ministry of Health, Dr. Montasir Mohamed Osman, participated in the endorsement of the Pandemic Convention Report during the 78th World Health Assembly. Dr. Montasir commended the amendments made to the Pandemic Convention and praised the efforts of the government body participating in the discussions and the World Health Organization (WHO) for their significant efforts over the past three years to produce this convention, which garnered broad consensus from most of the countries attending the Assembly.
According to Sudan News Agency, Sudan emphasized setting priorities for the equitable availability of vaccines, testing kits, medicines, and supplies to all countries, with special attention to those experiencing multiple health emergencies. The country also stressed the necessity of regional industries, capacity building, and sustainable financial support.
Sudan further supported the focus on the One Health approach, highlighting the importance of coordination between human, animal, and environmental health sectors. Additionally, Sudan called for the establishment of a transparent governance system for the convention that respects the sovereignty of states while promoting global solidarity.
Sudan affirmed its commitment to constructive engagement, with continued support from the organization and its members, to ensure that no country is left behind in global preparedness and response efforts.
