The hague: Sudan is participating in the meetings of the Conference of States Parties to the Chemical Weapons Convention, currently being held in The Hague, Netherlands, with a delegation headed by Ambassador Idris Ismail, Director General of International Cooperation at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. The Sudanese delegation presented a comprehensive statement to the conference, affirming Sudan’s commitment to the Chemical Weapons Convention and urging that the work of the organization not be politicized, enabling it to play its role in prohibiting chemical weapons in support of peace and security in the world.
According to Sudan News Agency, the statement indicated that Sudan is working diligently to verify allegations of chemical weapons use on its territory, including those announced by the United States in May of this year. Sudan continues its positive engagement with all relevant parties, based on its commitment as a responsible party to the Convention.
The delegation explained in its statement the magnitude of the challenges posed by the proxy war of aggression waged by the terrorist Rapid Support Forces militia and the countries supporting it against the people and state of Sudan. The statement also explained the extent of the military and logistical support that the militia receives illegally across international borders, calling on member states to condemn the criminality of the rebel militia and its supporters, and to classify the Rapid Support Forces militia as a terrorist organization and the countries that support it as state sponsors of terrorism.
On the other hand, the Sudanese delegation congratulated the new Director-General, Ms. Sabrina Delavaure, on her selection as the first woman to lead the organization, wishing her success in her mission.
