Khartoum: The Ministry of Agriculture and Irrigation has launched its Digital Transformation Project to advance the agricultural sector and strengthen water resource management. The initiative aims to restore capacities and improve efficiency within the national reconstruction agenda, following the extensive destruction and loss of data caused by the war.
According to Sudan News Agency, Minister Ismat Gurashi Abdullah said the project aligns with government directives under the Prime Minister’s patronage and reflects joint coordination with the Ministry of Digital Transformation and Telecommunications. He stressed that digital transformation is a strategic tool for developing agriculture and laying strong foundations for water resource management during the current critical phase.
The Minister explained that the program will support farmers and specialists by enabling technical tasks and data documentation, including crop monitoring, irrigation assessment, pest surveillance and control, production evaluatio
n, integrated decision-making tools, and improved water-use efficiency and irrigation techniques.
The Ministry added that training in modern technologies and restoring equipment and servers lost during the conflict are key priorities to ensure the sector’s readiness to support national recovery and development.
The Minister called on all stakeholders to intensify cooperation to advance this essential project, which he described as vital for the recovery process and for achieving sustainable water and food security amid damaged infrastructure and information systems.
