Khartoum: President of the Transitional Sovereignty Council (TSC) and Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces, General Abdel-Fattah Al-Burhan, welcomed a statement from Norway’s Deputy Foreign Minister and Norwegian Envoy to Sudan, Andreas Kravik. The statement confirmed that no new U.S. document had been submitted to the Sudanese government.
According to Sudan News Agency, TSC President praised the efforts of U.S. President Donald Trump and Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman in supporting peace initiatives in Sudan. The comments were made during a meeting in Port Sudan with the Norwegian Deputy Foreign Minister and Envoy to Sudan, attended by the Undersecretary of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Ambassador Muawia Osman Khalid.
In a press statement, the Foreign Ministry Undersecretary noted that the TSC President appreciated Norway’s enduring role as a partner in Sudan’s peace-making process. He reiterated the government’s commitment to achieving a peace that aligns with the aspirations of the Sudanese people and protects their rights. The TSC President also expressed openness to ongoing U.S. efforts in supporting peace, acknowledging the clarification that no new proposal had been presented concerning peace in Sudan.
Norwegian Envoy Andreas Kravik affirmed his country’s dedication to collaborating with partners for a unified and prosperous Sudan. He emphasized the importance of initiating a political process and responding to a humanitarian truce to ensure aid reaches those in need. Kravik highlighted the unintended tension caused by the circulation of two documents presumed to be from the United States, an issue he clarified with Massad Boulos, U.S. President’s Adviser for Arab and African Affairs.
Kravik explained that the sole proposal on the humanitarian truce was introduced weeks ago, and it would precede a comprehensive political process for a stable Sudan. He clarified that the humanitarian truce is distinct from a ceasefire or political agreement, focusing instead on temporarily halting hostilities to deliver humanitarian aid. He underscored the importance of ensuring aid reaches all regions of Sudan while maintaining open access through the Adre crossing.
