Khartoum: The General Authority for Geological Research, the technical arm of Sudan’s Ministry of Minerals, has announced the receipt of two atlases of geological maps and technical reports from Russia. This development comes in the wake of the loss of all geological data due to the recent war, which resulted in the destruction of the headquarters of both the ministry and the General Authority for Geological Research.
According to Sudan News Agency, the Undersecretary of the Ministry of Minerals, Dr. Hind Siddig, had requested a digital copy of the geological data from the joint project with Russia, originally established under a 2013 protocol signed at the 16th Economic Forum in Kazan. The request was directed to the Russian Company Rose Geo during a joint meeting. In response, the Russian side promptly delivered a paper copy of the project’s technical report and two atlases of geological maps, with a promise of digital copies to be provided later.
The meeting also explored investment opportunities in Sudan’s mining sector, focusing on chromium and manganese. The Sudanese delegation requested technical study proposals from the Russian side, which are to be discussed further at the eighth session of the Joint Ministerial Committee scheduled for next June.
Rose Geo was selected by the Russian Ministry of Natural Resources during the meetings of the Sudanese-Russian Joint Ministerial Committee. The Sudanese Ambassador to Russia, Ambassador Mohamed Al-Ghazali, expressed his readiness to facilitate procedures for the Russian side, including issuing entry visas and establishing a joint liaison channel between the embassy and Rose Geo Company.
