Khartoum: Minister of Industry and Trade Mahasin Ali Yagoub has disclosed a significant blow to Khartoum State’s industrial sector, revealing that the rebel Rapid Support Forces (RSF) militia has destroyed 1,877 factories. Out of these, 553 have been entirely demolished, while 1,267 have sustained partial damage. The Minister highlighted that the assault was aimed primarily at industrial infrastructure, particularly targeting power equipment and energy systems, with the apparent intention of hindering the resumption of factory operations.
According to Sudan News Agency, the Minister shared these findings during a briefing conference organized by the Ministry of Culture and Information in Port Sudan. The government, with the support of the Ministry of Industry and Trade, conducted a comprehensive damage assessment following the liberation of Khartoum State. This assessment was crucial in establishing the extent of the destruction caused by the RSF.
The Minister emphasized the severe impact of the systematic aggression on the industrial sector, which led to a complete cessation of industrial activities in the states of Khartoum, Al-Gezira, and Sennar. This halt in production has forced the nation to import even basic commodities, placing a substantial burden on the State. She reiterated the ministry’s commitment to restoring productive capacity and rebuilding the infrastructure destroyed by the conflict.
Furthermore, the Minister detailed the implementation of an emergency plan at the onset of the war. This plan, which relied on the states to salvage what was possible, proved beneficial in alleviating the crisis. It successfully reactivated factories in secure regions, prioritizing essential facilities like cooking-oil plants and flour mills to meet citizens’ needs.
