Canberra: Members of the Sudanese community, together with Arab and African communities, organized a protest in front of the Australian Parliament in Canberra on Saturday to express solidarity with the people of Darfur and to condemn the acts of ethnic cleansing and genocide carried out by militias backed by the Abu Dhabi regime in El-Fashir and across the region.
According to Sudan News Agency, protesters raised banners calling for a boycott of the UAE and urging the Australian government to launch an official investigation into its role in supporting the violations. They demanded that all those involved be held accountable and referred to the International Criminal Court, stressing the United Arab Emirates’ (UAE) full responsibility for the war crimes resulting from its sponsoring the militia.
The Imam of the Canberra Islamic Centre also voiced strong solidarity with the Sudanese people, calling for an immediate end to the atrocities in Darfur. The event follows a similar protest held last week in front of the UAE Embassy in Australia.
