Prime Minister Praises UN Agencies for Crucial Support in Combating Cholera Epidemic

Khartoum: Prime Minister Dr. Kamil Idris expressed gratitude towards international organizations and United Nations agencies for their significant role in aiding the urgent response to the cholera epidemic. These organizations have been instrumental in supplying essential medical supplies, intravenous solutions, and offering technical support for training, protocol development, and health activity implementation based on scientific methodologies and principles.

According to Sudan News Agency, the Prime Minister specifically acknowledged the contributions of the International Coordination Group for Cholera Vaccination (ICG). He praised their unwavering and continuous support, highlighting the efforts of the Technical Committee for Cholera Vaccination and the ICG’s assistance. Since October 2023, these efforts have facilitated the procurement of 16,959,845 doses of cholera vaccine, enabling response campaigns across 39 localities in 11 Sudanese states.

Furthermore, Dr. Idris extended his appreciation to Dr. Tedros Adhanom, the Director-General of the World Health Organization (WHO), for his directives to the regional and Sudan offices to intensify efforts in providing essential medical supplies and support.

In line with these efforts, the Ministry of Health reported the successful arrival and distribution of substantial quantities of medical supplies and intravenous solutions. Additionally, first aid for emergency response and other necessary inputs for treating cholera have been provided, adhering to established treatment protocols.
