Wellington: Sudan’s Official Representative in Australia, Ambassador Ahmed Salah Bayoumi, recently briefed Mr. Robert Cammock, the Director of the African Directorate at the New Zealand Ministry of Foreign Affairs, on the ongoing developments in Sudan. The briefing highlighted the atrocities committed by the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) militia in Al-Fashir, which include ethnic cleansing and mass killings.
According to Sudan News Agency, Ambassador Bayoumi urged New Zealand to take decisive actions, such as designating the RSF as a terrorist organization, and to pressure external entities, particularly those in Abu Dhabi, to cease their support and supply of advanced weaponry to the militia. He also called for increased humanitarian assistance for civilians affected by the conflict.
Mr. Cammock reaffirmed New Zealand’s commitment to Sudan’s unity and territorial integrity, explicitly rejecting the RSF’s declaration of a parallel government. He expressed New Zealand’s condemnation of the violations against civilians and indicated that the country is contemplating a new humanitarian aid package for those in need.
New Zealand has a history of providing humanitarian support to Sudan, having previously contributed USD 3 million through the World Food Programme (WFP) and the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC).
