Atbara: The Ministry of Foreign Affairs condemned the heinous terrorist crime committed by the Janjaweed militia on Friday, targeting Al-Mogran Shelter in Atbara.
According to Sudan News Agency, the attack resulted in the deaths of 11 displaced persons, including four martyrs from one family, and included the bombing of the Atbara Transformer Power Station. The Ministry’s statement highlighted the use of advanced drones and long-range heavy artillery by the militia, supplied by a regional sponsor, to target civilians and critical infrastructure.
The statement emphasized the recent defeats suffered by the RSF Janjaweed militia across various battlefronts, leading them to resort to targeting power stations as part of a broader genocidal campaign. These attacks have disrupted essential services, including water plants and hospitals, exacerbating the humanitarian crisis.
Further, the escalation comes on the heels of the United Nations Security Council’s renewed demand for the militia to cease attacks on displaced persons and lift its siege of El Fasher. The Ministry criticized the militia’s defiance of international legitimacy and its disregard for global condemnation.
The statement concluded with a call for the international community to take concrete measures to end the impunity enjoyed by the militia and its regional sponsor, warning that mere appeals and condemnations would not change the militia’s behavior.
