Minister of Industry and UNIDO’s Sudan Director Discuss Industrial Development Amid Challenges.

Khartoum: Acting Minister of Industry Mahasin Ali Yagoub has commended the partnership between the Ministry of Industry and the United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO), acknowledging UNIDO’s role in supporting Sudan’s industrial development programs through projects aligned with sustainable development goals. This praise was expressed during her meeting with the UNIDO Country Director and project coordinators in Sudan.

According to Sudan News Agency, the minister emphasized the need for increased efforts by the Ministry of Industry and UNIDO to address the effects of the ongoing conflict in Sudan, which has led to the systematic destruction of factories and industrial infrastructure. The focus, she noted, should be on projects that facilitate employment for youth and women, as the country transitions to the reconstruction phase.

Mohamed El Sayid, the Country Director of UNIDO in Sudan, stated that UNIDO is working in coordination with the Ministry of Industry to implement industrial devel
opment programs. He highlighted UNIDO’s commitment to qualifying human resources, supporting productive projects, and creating job opportunities.

The minister was briefed on several significant projects in the states of Al-Gadarif and Kassala. These include the Women’s Employment Project to Achieve Food Security in Al-Gadarif State, funded by the Canadian government, and the Value Added Chains in Agricultural Production Project, funded by the Italian Development Agency. These initiatives are designed to enhance production and add value to agricultural outputs by converting them into industrial products.

The minister expressed satisfaction with these projects, noting their role in creating job opportunities for youth and women and their support for local communities. She also highlighted the potential for these projects to lead to partnerships for small and medium-sized enterprises.

Both sides underscored the importance of strengthening coordination between the Ministry and UNIDO, with the Ministry taking a
n active role in steering and technical committees that oversee project implementation.
