Khartoum: Minister of Finance and Economic Planning, Dr. Gebreil Ibrahim, has provided assurances on the ongoing preparations for the upcoming winter agricultural season, focusing on the provision of essential production inputs such as seeds, fertilizers, and fuel necessary for agricultural operations. During a meeting held at the ministry on Monday, the Minister highlighted the government’s commitment to ensuring the timely completion of preparations and the availability of all necessary supplies to guarantee the success of the agricultural activities. He also emphasized the potential benefits of coordination with the World Food Program (WFP) to facilitate the provision of seeds and fertilizers to producers.
According to Sudan News Agency, Minister of Agriculture and Forests, Dr. Abu Bakr Omar Al-Bushra, participated in the meeting via video conference and expressed confidence in the preparations, noting that the only potential threat could arise from security issues. He disclosed that the WFP is prepared t
o finance the purchase of 15,000 tons of urea fertilizer and 5,000 tons of diammonium hydrogen phosphate (DAP), reinforcing the efforts to support the agricultural sector.
Additionally, Mohamed Adam Abdel-Karim, the General Manager of the Agricultural Bank of Sudan, disclosed the bank’s plans to procure 50,000 tons of DAP to aid farmers. He announced that the distribution of DAP and urea fertilizers to farmers in the northern, Nile River, and western Gezira regions has been completed. Efforts are ongoing to secure further financing for purchasing additional fertilizers, burlap, and pesticides for farmers in the various targeted states.
