Khartoum: Minister of Agriculture and Irrigation, Professor Ismat Gurashi Abdullah, praised Al-Gadarif State’s role in rehabilitating forests that have deteriorated due to encroachments and excessive logging.
According to Sudan News Agency, during his inspection of the replanting of 1,000 feddans in Al-Rawashda Forest, accompanied by Al-Gadarif Wali (governor), Lt. Gen. Mohamed Ahmed Hassan, and members of the state government, the Minister commended the concerted efforts to restore the forests. He stated that this initiative represents an initial step and an important phase towards restoring forest cover and preserving the environment, highlighting the significance of forests as the first line of defense against climate change and a foundation for sustainable development.
The Minister stressed that citizens are partners in forest restoration. For his part, Al-Gadarif Wali reiterated the state government’s commitment to restoring forest cover to its original state, urging the Ministry of Production and Forests to conduct a survey of the affected forests for their rehabilitation, and to launch awareness campaigns on the importance of forests and their role in environmental balance.
The Minister also called for supporting the state in its forest rehabilitation project and finding solutions to the challenges facing Al-Gadarif.
