Khartoum State’s Wali Highlights Police as First Institution to Resume Operations in Capital

Khartoum: The Wali of Khartoum, Ahmed Osman Hamza, acknowledged the role of the police forces in the state’s recovery efforts during a meeting with the Director-General of the Police Forces, General Khalid Hassan Mohi-Eddin, and the Director of the Khartoum State Police, Lt. Gen. Amir Abdel-Moniem.

According to Sudan News Agency, the Wali praised the police for their proactive return to their headquarters in Khartoum and for their pivotal involvement in the Battle of Dignity. He highlighted their quick relocation of directorates and leaderships to implement security programs that aim to restore the state’s authority.

The police forces have been deployed across the state’s localities, reopening stations and resuming their duties. They are also aiding state efforts by organizing support convoys, assisting religious institutions, and supplying vehicles.

Hamza stated that post-liberation challenges necessitate substantial security efforts, particularly in securing neighborhoods, preventing lawlessness, protecting public facilities, maintaining service continuity, and tackling issues such as informal housing, unregulated foreign presence, and vehicle thefts.

The Wali urged for combined efforts from all sectors, especially regular forces, to secure the capital in this critical period. He pointed out the need for efforts to prevent thefts and ensure the safe return of citizens to their homes following the liberation of the Al-Salha area.

General Khalid Hassan commended the state government’s success against the rebel militia and emphasized the need for collaborative efforts for recovery and reconstruction after the significant damage to the capital’s infrastructure. He reaffirmed the police forces’ commitment to working with other regular forces to curb crime and manage informal housing and illegal foreign presence, stating that security is essential for service provision.
