Geneva: The Sudanese delegation, led by Acting Minister of Health Dr. Haitham Mohamed Ibrahim, has commenced its participation in the 78th World Health Assembly in Geneva. The delegation took part in a high-level dialogue session on maternal and child health on Monday, which was attended by representatives from the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA), UNICEF, the World Health Organization (WHO), and several African ministers.
According to Sudan News Agency, Sudan also engaged in an event organized by the Africa Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (Africa CDC) in collaboration with the African Leaders Malaria Alliance (ALMA) and the Global Malaria Elimination Partnership. The event saw the participation of the Director of Emergency and Epidemic Control, Dr. Montasir Mohamed Osman.
During the event, participants stressed the need for unified African efforts to eliminate malaria, pointing out the challenges related to high infection rates and child mortality. They discussed the necessity of securing resources, enhancing local pharmaceutical manufacturing, developing vaccines, and transferring new technologies.
The participants also highlighted the significance of African innovations, cooperation among member states, adherence to the Yaound© Declaration, and the development of effective national programs to combat the disease.
