Khartoum: Minister of Health, Dr. Haitham Mohamed Ibrahim, engaged in a meeting with the Russian Deputy Minister of Health on the sidelines of the 78th World Health Assembly. The discussion revolved around enhancing bilateral cooperation in the health sector between Sudan and Russia.
According to Sudan News Agency, Minister Haitham expressed his gratitude for the ongoing support from Russia and highlighted Sudan’s eagerness to expand cooperation in strengthening health systems. The focus was on providing medical supplies, medicines, and enhancing capacity-building efforts. The discussions also addressed Sudan’s pressing need for medical equipment, diagnostic tools, and essential medical supplies.
Minister Haitham underscored the importance of facilitating medical tourism, particularly for patients wounded in war who require specialized medical care abroad. He expressed hope for Russian assistance in addressing these critical needs.
Both parties agreed on the necessity to draft a memorandum of understanding and a clear roadmap for cooperation to expedite the implementation of joint initiatives. The Russian Deputy Minister conveyed Russia’s interest in establishing pharmaceutical factories in Sudan, leveraging the country’s strategic location in the COMESA markets as a gateway to other African markets. This comes as the Sudanese government has managed to restore stability in most areas of the country.
The meeting concluded with a mutual commitment to strengthen cooperation during the upcoming economic forum in June, where Minister Dr. Haitham will participate. This event will provide an excellent opportunity to sign the memorandum of understanding and roadmap.
