Khartoum: The Governor of the Northern State, Lieutenant General Abdul Rahman Abdul Hamid Ibrahim, engaged in discussions with a delegation from the High Committee for the Regularization of the Status of Displaced Persons from Darfur and Kordofan. The meeting focused on addressing the conditions of displaced persons within the state. Present at the meeting were key officials including the Secretary-General of the State Government, Professor Mahjoub Mohamed Sayed Ahmed, Professor Manal Makawi, the Secretary of the Social Affairs Secretariat, Dr. Wael Mohamed Sharif, the Commissioner of Humanitarian Aid in the state, and Major General Mohamed Ali Al-Hassan Al-Koudabi, the Director of the State Police.
According to Sudan News Agency, the governor was briefed on the committee's visit objectives and the outcomes of its field visit to the Al-Afad camp located in Al-Dabba locality. The committee assessed the conditions of the displaced people and evaluated their service and humanitarian needs.
Brigadier General Al-Mu'az Bushra Saeed, a member of the Supreme Committee, stated that the committee is focused on addressing the needs of displaced people from war-affected areas in Darfur and Kordofan who have relocated to safer regions. The committee aims to improve conditions in health, education, shelter, and basic services for these individuals.
He highlighted that the field visit to Al-Afad camp was conducted to accurately assess the needs of the displaced people, noting that the camp currently shelters about 4,300 families. He acknowledged the efforts of the Northern State government and the local community in supporting and hosting these families.
Brigadier General Al-Mu'az emphasized the need for enhanced coordination between the federal and state governments to manage the continued influx of displaced people. He suggested that opening new camps in safe areas is essential to accommodate the increasing number of displaced persons.
