Dongola: The Governor of the Northern State, Lieutenant General Abdul Rahman Abdul Hamid Ibrahim, held a meeting with the Indian Ambassador to Sudan, Mr. Satish Mehda, along with his delegation, to discuss the progress of the prosthetic limb installation camp underway in Dongola. The meeting also saw the participation of key figures, including the Secretary-General for Social Affairs, Ms. Manal Makawi, the Acting Director-General of the Ministry of Health, Dr. Yasser Abdul Wadoud, and Mr. Othman Hassan, Director of the State's Artificial Limbs Center.
According to Sudan News Agency, the meeting focused on reviewing the efforts to ensure the camp's success and expanding its scope of benefit, with support from the State of India. Dr. Yasser Abdul Wadood stated that the Governor expressed his gratitude to the Indian government for its support in establishing the camp and emphasized the local government's readiness for full cooperation to ensure the current camp's success and the establishment of similar camps in the future.
The Governor highlighted the importance of exchanging expertise and training in the field of prosthetic limb fitting, which would help localize the industry in the state. The Indian Ambassador expressed gratitude to the federal and Northern State governments for organizing the camp, which will run for six weeks with the aim of fitting 600 prosthetic limbs.
The Ambassador noted that the installation processes employ modern technologies, enabling beneficiaries to walk, run, swim, and perform prayers. He added that this technology has been distributed to 49 countries globally, with 152 camps organized across several African nations. The process of fitting the prosthetic limb is completed in just one day. He affirmed India's readiness to support Sudan in prosthetics through training and the transfer of expertise and modern technologies.
