Khartoum: The Ministry of Foreign Affairs issued a press statement on Friday addressing the atrocities committed by the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) militia in multiple states.
According to Sudan News Agency, the statement from the Ministry highlighted a series of recent humanitarian crimes by the RSF militia, also known as the Janjaweed, which have targeted civilian areas. In El Fasher, the militia bombed World Food Programme warehouses, resulting in their complete destruction along with all food supplies. In El Obeid, North Kordofan, an attack on Al-Daman Hospital resulted in the deaths of 16 patients and injuries to several visitors and medical staff. Additionally, in El Khoi, West Kordofan, a drone attack on a popular market killed eight civilians, while an assault on a residential neighborhood in Al-Dabaibat, South Kordofan, claimed two more lives.
The statement emphasized that these acts, occurring within a 72-hour period, demonstrate a systematic targeting of civilians and essential facilities. The RSF
‘s actions have led to the shutdown of most hospitals in El Fasher and the destruction of the Zamzam camp for internally displaced persons, where hundreds were killed. Hostages, including over 300 women, were reportedly taken by the militia. The militia’s continued siege on El Fasher has included the burning of food warehouses, aiming to starve the city’s residents.
Vital infrastructure, including hospitals, schools, and water and electricity stations, has been repeatedly targeted, leading to further civilian casualties and the spread of epidemics due to the lack of clean water. The statement attributed responsibility for these acts to the RSF’s regional sponsor, who provides strategic drones and funds the militia’s mercenaries. Western allies of this sponsor were also criticized for protecting the militia in international forums and being lenient towards their actions.
