Khartoum: The Ministry of Foreign Affairs issued a statement on Tuesday regarding the participation of the Libyan Salafist Brigade, affiliated with Khalifa Haftar, in the attack by the Janjaweed militia on Sudanese Armed Forces border points inside Sudanese territory, in an attempt to seize the border triangle between Sudan, Egypt, and Libya.
According to Sudan News Agency, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs stated that the direct engagement of Haftar’s forces with the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) militia within Sudanese borders represents an escalation of the external aggression against Sudan, sponsored by the Abu Dhabi regime. It also highlights the threat to regional security and stability caused by the Abu Dhabi regime’s ambitions and schemes in the region.
The statement further elaborated that the Sudan-Libya borders have been a significant entry point for weapons and mercenaries to the RSF militia, funded by the UAE and coordinated by Haftar’s forces and affiliated groups. The forces resorted to direct intervention in the fighting following the defeats suffered by the militia, having lost most of its positions. The Ministry condemned the direct military intervention by Haftar as a violation of international law, the UN Charter, and international norms and treaties. The statement criticized the inaction of the UN Security Council and Western powers in the face of the militia’s sponsor’s role in fueling the war.
The Ministry called on the international community, including the United Nations, the African Union, and the League of Arab States, to condemn the attack and respond seriously to the threat to Sudan’s sovereignty, unity, and regional security. It urged for urgent measures to deter the aggressors.
In conclusion, the Ministry affirmed that Sudan reserves its right to take necessary action to defend its sovereignty, territorial integrity, and the safety of its people.
