Addis ababa: Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation Ambassador Mohi-Eddin Salim held a meeting with the Italian Ambassador to Sudan, Michele Tomasi, at the minister's residence in the presidential palace in Addis Ababa. Also in attendance was Sudan's Ambassador to Ethiopia, Ambassador Al-Zein Ibrahim Hussein.
According to Sudan News Agency, the discussions focused on the mutual commitment of Sudan and Italy to enhance bilateral relations for the benefit of both nations. The foreign minister expressed his gratitude towards Italy for its Italy for Sudan initiative, which recently facilitated the delivery of a humanitarian aid aircraft to assist schoolchildren affected by conflict last December.
The Italian ambassador highlighted ongoing preparations to send a humanitarian aid ship to support Sudanese schools in eastern Sudan, Khartoum, and Northern State. He reiterated Italy's steadfast support for Sudan and expressed optimism that international efforts would soon help achieve sustainable peace in the region.
The foreign minister assured the Italian ambassador that political and ground conditions in Sudan are improving and expressed hope for Italy's continued support in reconstruction efforts. He also encouraged Italy to be among the first countries to reopen its embassy in Khartoum, signaling a strengthened diplomatic presence.
