Foreign Minister Engages EU Envoy on Sudan Peace Efforts.

Khartoum: Minister of Foreign Affairs Dr. Ali Youssef received the European Union (EU) Special Representative for the Horn of Africa, Ms. Anita Weber, on Monday. The meeting focused on strategies to end the ongoing war in Sudan and discussed the implications of Sudan’s relationships with neighboring countries and regional organizations in promoting peace. The discussions also covered the implementation mechanisms of the Jeddah Agreement.

According to Sudan News Agency, Ms. Weber emphasized the EU’s commitment to alleviating suffering and supporting peace initiatives in Sudan. Dr. Youssef expressed appreciation for the EU’s involvement and highlighted the significance of Sudan’s relationship with the European Union. He voiced hope that the EU would play a pivotal role in establishing the conditions necessary to cease the conflict in Sudan by urging the rebel militia and their allies to adhere to the terms agreed upon in Jeddah.

The Minister insisted that halting the war would require cutting off financial an
d weapon supplies to the militia. He reiterated the Sudanese government’s willingness to end the conflict, contingent upon the cessation of military, financial, and logistical support to the militia, and emphasized the importance of allowing displaced citizens to return to their homes occupied by the rebels.

Furthermore, Dr. Youssef affirmed the government’s dedication to ensuring the delivery of aid to those in need, underscoring their commitment to facilitating humanitarian assistance.
