According to Sudan News Agency, the annual meetings recently kicked off with the wide participation of more than 6,000 delegates representing 81 member countries of the AfDB Group, reflecting the growing importance of this major economic and financial event on the continent. The meetings program extends until May 30 and includes the 60th Annual Meeting of the AfDB Board of Governors and the 51st Session of the Board of Governors of the African Development Fund.

The agenda also includes several high-level organizational meetings, including a meeting of the Bureau of the Board of Governors, a meeting of the Joint Steering Committee of the Open Council for Non-Member States, and an informal meeting of the Steering Committee for the election of the new President of the African Development Bank. Part of the program is dedicated to presenting and discussing the implementation plan for the second decade of Agenda 2063, a comprehensive development roadmap for the continent.

In his opening remarks, President of the Republic of C´te d’Ivoire, His Excellency Alassane Ouattara welcomed all participating delegations, commending the pivotal role of the African Development Bank Group in supporting economic and social growth in Africa. He called for strengthening regional integration and intensifying joint efforts to address development challenges.

The participation of the Sudanese Minister of Finance in these meetings came within the framework of Sudan’s continued commitment to constructive engagement with regional and international financial institutions and exploring opportunities for technical and investment support, particularly in light of the economic challenges facing the country.

The Minister is scheduled to hold a series of bilateral meetings with AfDB officials and a number of his African counterparts to discuss ways to support Sudan’s economic priorities and strengthen strategic partnerships aimed at reconstruction, recovery, and sustainable development.

It is to be recalled that the AFDB Group, which includes the African Development Bank and the African Development Fund, was established in 1964 in Khartoum, the Sudanese capital, as a multinational financial institution aiming to promote economic growth and contribute to social progress on the African continent.
