Khartoum: The Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) has announced a significant grant of $7 million to support Sudan's agricultural sectors. This grant will be divided equally, with $3.5 million allocated to bolster the livestock sector and another $3.5 million dedicated to the development of fisheries.
According to Sudan News Agency, Finance Minister Dr. Jibril Ibrahim highlighted the critical role of the FAO in aiding Sudan's efforts to strengthen its productive sectors. The enhancement of these sectors is a primary focus for the country. During a meeting with Mr. Hongji Yang, the FAO's resident representative in Sudan, Dr. Ibrahim committed to facilitating the organization's operations by removing any barriers. He stressed the importance of the FAO's involvement in attracting additional funding from regional and international financial bodies to aid war-affected areas, support productive sectors, and advance the localization of improved seed production in Sudan, ultimately aiming to achieve food security.
Mr. Hongji Yang disclosed that 23 million vaccine doses have been secured, sufficient to vaccinate ten million heads of the national livestock herd. He also noted ongoing efforts to address existing gaps in the sector. Additionally, he mentioned a forthcoming grant aimed at supporting water stations powered by solar energy, with a focus on the states of Khartoum, Al-Jazirah, River Nile, Al-Qadarif, and Kassala.
