Khartoum: Ministers of Energy and Agriculture in Sudan have come together to explore ways to enhance the country’s agricultural sector. The meeting took place at the office of the Minister of Agriculture and Irrigation and focused on addressing challenges related to electric power and collaborative water-generation and irrigation projects.
According to Sudan News Agency, the gathering featured Minister of Energy Eng. Al-Mutasim Ibrahim Ahmed and Minister of Agriculture and Irrigation Prof. Ismat Gurashi Abdullah. They reviewed various projects that necessitate joint efforts to ensure full agricultural productivity. A key focus of the discussion was increasing the operational capacity of the Mina Power Station in Sennar State, which plays a critical role in supplying the Rahad Agricultural Scheme. This is vital for the success of both the winter and summer farming seasons, alongside other urgent collaborative projects.
The Minister of Energy emphasized the essential partnership between his ministry and the Ministry of Agriculture and Irrigation. He highlighted the interconnected responsibilities, especially in hydropower generation and irrigation, and reiterated the ministry’s commitment to prioritizing the agricultural sector due to its significant impact on national food security.
