Dr. Al-Tohami Hajar Sworn in as Minister of Education Before TSC President

Khartoum: Dr. Al-Tohami Al-Zein Hajar was sworn in as Minister of Education on Sunday before President of the Transitional Sovereignty Council (TSC), Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces, General Abdel-Fattah Al-Burhan. Following the swearing-in ceremony, Dr. Al-Tohami expressed his thanks and appreciation to TSC President for the trust he has placed in him, stressing his determination to work diligently to develop the education sector in light of the current challenges facing the country.

According to Sudan News Agency, the Minister praised the great sacrifices made by the armed forces, the regular forces, and the mobilized forces in confronting the terrorist Al-Dagalo militia and achieving victories in the “Battle of Dignity and Pride.” He affirmed the Ministry’s full support for the armed forces in order to preserve Sudan’s unity, stability, and territorial integrity.

Al-Tohami emphasized that education is a fundamental pillar for achieving sustainable development, asserting his commitment to achieving quality education and building a modern and advanced education system that responds to the needs of society and provides equal educational opportunities for all.

The Minister of Education indicated that the Ministry’s future vision is based on rebuilding and rehabilitating the infrastructure of educational institutions destroyed by terrorist militias and establishing modern schools equipped with the latest educational technologies, in coordination with internal and external educational partners.

He also announced a plan to develop curricula to keep pace with global developments, expand the use of technology across the Ministry’s various departments, and promote e-learning, with a focus on training and qualifying teachers in the field of digital transformation.

The Minister underscored the importance of technical education as a pillar of the national renaissance, expressing his intention to conduct field visits to a number of states to assess the extent of the damage to the education sector. He also announced the relocation of the Ministry’s headquarters to Khartoum to begin work from within the capital.

Concluding his statement, the Minister announced the formation of special committees to host 6,700 Darfur state students residing in eastern Chad, enabling them to take the 2024 Sudanese Certificate exams.
