Khartoum: The Director of the Directorate of Peace and Humanitarian Affairs at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Ambassador Kamal Bashir, has affirmed the state’s commitment to facilitating the entry of humanitarian aid in accordance with the regulations and laws governing humanitarian work. He noted the state’s commitment to extending the opening of the Adre border crossing for three months, a step that reflects the state’s adherence to ensuring the delivery of aid to those in need.
According to Sudan News Agency, this came during Ambassador Kamal’s speech at the Ministry of Culture and Information’s briefing conference. The event, organized by the Sudan News Agency (SUNA), hosted the Transitional Sovereignty Council’s advisory on humanitarian affairs and organizations to discuss general guidelines for providing humanitarian aid in the country.
Ambassador Kamal called on donors to fulfill their commitments to providing humanitarian aid in the country, appealing to organizations and the international community to engage and condemn the violations committed by the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) in Darfur, the displacement camps in Zamzam and Al-Salha, the villages of Al-Jum’iya, and other areas. He explained that the militia systematically targets service facilities, including electricity and water facilities, hospitals, and schools.
The Director urged countries supporting the militia to cease supplying it with weapons, noting that the influx of weapons has significantly contributed to the exacerbation of civilian suffering and the RSF’s perpetration of further violations.
Regarding the performance of humanitarian organizations, Ambassador Kamal pointed to the weak response of these organizations in providing aid, citing reduced project funding while increasing visa applications at a time when it was hoped that the organizations would reach all those in need everywhere. He also called on organizations to condemn the violations committed by the militia in the areas where they are present, which have led to a significant deterioration in the humanitarian situation. He emphasized that the humanitarian situation is improving significantly in the areas where the armed forces have regained control.
He urged the international community and organizations to pressure the militia to adhere to international humanitarian law. Ambassador Kamal also called on organizations to focus on areas hosting displaced persons and protect them from Rapid Support Forces violations. He also called on organizations to provide support in the fields of water, electricity, and health, while expediting the provision of the required humanitarian services.
