Addis Ababa: Sudan’s Ambassador to Ethiopia and Permanent Representative to the African Union (AU) and the United Nations (UN) Economic Commission for Africa, Al-Zein Ibrahim Hussein, has held a briefing meeting with the Executive Secretary of the United Nations Economic Commission for Africa, Mr. Claver Gatiti, in the presence of the Minister Plenipotentiary at the Embassy, Dr. Suad Mirghani.
According to Sudan News Agency, the Sudanese side provided Mr. Claver with a detailed briefing on the situation in Sudan, emphasizing that the War of Dignity operation against the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) militia has successfully liberated most of the country’s territory. The operation aims to continue extending the state’s authority across its territory, ensuring the safe return of citizens to their cities, villages, and farms, normalizing life, and providing necessary services.
The Ambassador also informed the UN official about the significant constitutional developments, including the appointment of Dr. Kamil Idris as Prime Minister by the President of the Transitional Sovereignty Council (TSC), General Abdel-Fattah Al-Burhan. He mentioned that consultations are underway to form a government to lead the transition, following the transitional roadmap.
Ambassador Al-Zein urged the UN official to support Sudan with emergency aid for projects under the international organization’s mandate in Africa, focusing on emergency needs, capacity building, and joint assessment. In response, Mr. Claver Gatiti affirmed his support for Sudan through a package of programs to be agreed upon with the country’s ministries and focal points to aid the transition.
