Kampala: Vice President of the Transitional Sovereignty Council (TSC), Commander Malik Agar, participated in the meetings of the Regional Mechanism for Monitoring the Framework Agreement on Peace, Security, and Cooperation in the Great Lakes Region, held in the Ugandan capital, Kampala. The meeting was chaired by Ugandan President and current Chairperson of the Mechanism, Yoweri Museveni.

According to Sudan News Agency, the Undersecretary of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Ambassador Hussein Al-Amin Al-Fadil, stated that the Mechanism discussed the overall situation in the region, focusing on Sudan, South Sudan, and the Democratic Republic of the Congo. The summit issued a comprehensive statement containing 31 paragraphs, including two specifically addressing Sudan.

The final statement expressed solidarity with the Sudanese people in their conflict with the rebel militia. Ambassador Al-Fadil highlighted that the statement’s reference to the rebel militia as a “militia” marked a first in regional and international statements. Additionally, the summit rejected foreign interference in Sudanese affairs and emphasized the need to stop the smuggling and transfer of weapons and mercenaries to Sudan. Furthermore, it called for an end to targeting Sudanese facilities and cities with drones.

The statement urged the militia to lift the siege of El-Fashir in compliance with UN Security Council Resolution 2736. Ambassador Al-Fadil also mentioned that TSC Vice-President Agar would engage in several meetings on the sidelines of the summit to discuss matters related to Sudan’s peace, security, and solidarity with his counterparts and heads of delegations.
