3rd Infantry Division in Shendi Facilitates Return of 66 Child Soldiers to Families

Shendi: The Intelligence Directorate of the Third Infantry Division in Shendi, in cooperation with the National Council for Child Welfare, has successfully returned 66 children who were involved in the conflict by the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) militia to their families. Additionally, five other children were handed over by the artillery in Atbara.

According to Sudan News Agency, the Deputy Wali of the River Nile State stated that this action by the Armed Forces delivers a significant message to advocates of human rights and children’s rights worldwide. It underscores the Sudanese army’s adherence to the cultural and ethical principles of the Sudanese people, despite the war being imposed by external regional and international forces.

Al-Sharif emphasized that the Armed Forces demonstrate exemplary ethical and humane conduct, contrasting sharply with the Rapid Support Forces militia, which has been accused of severe violations against civilians and prisoners of war. He assured that the children are in good health and commended the efforts of the armed forces in ensuring their safety and return.

The Deputy Wali also expressed hope that these children will become pillars of support for Sudan, the armed forces, and the government as the nation seeks to heal from the rebellion’s impacts.

Khalid Abdel-Ghaffar Al-Sheikh, the Executive Director of Shendi Locality, lauded the Armed Forces for their actions, calling it a profound demonstration of human rights. He highlighted the RSF militia’s numerous violations, particularly the forced recruitment of children for combat, disregarding fundamental child rights.

Ahmed Abdullah, the Secretary-General of the National Council for Child Welfare, noted the significant contributions from international organizations like UNICEF and the Red Cross, alongside national entities, in the successful execution of this child protection initiative.
