Khartoum: The Federal Ministry of Health, in collaboration with the World Health Organization (WHO), inaugurated on Sunday at the Ministry’s headquarters in Khartoum the Emergency Operations Center (EOC) equipment designated for the Federal Ministry of Health as well as the State Ministries of Health in Al-Gezira, Sennar, White Nile, and Blue Nile States.
According to Sudan News Agency, the Director of the Emergency Operations Center at the General Directorate of Health Emergencies and Epidemic Control, Fadl Al-Mawla Makki, stated in a press release that the ceremony was honored by Minister Dr. Haitham Mohamed Ibrahim. He explained that this phase represents the second stage, following an earlier phase that covered the Northern, Al-Gadarif, Red Sea, River Nile, and Kassala States.
He further noted that a third stage is planned to cover the Darfur and Kordofan States, supported by WHO, with the objective of strengthening epidemic response and linking the states with the federal center to facilitate the flow of information and enable timely decision-making.
Makki underlined that the EOC platform serves as a unified channel of information for all directorates to ensure decisions are made promptly, pointing out that weekly meetings are held at the federal and state levels, monitored by the center, to discuss developments and outbreaks.
Makki added that there is a plan covering all 18 states, especially as Sudan is experiencing a difficult phase of epidemic spread and disasters.
WHO has also supported the Surveillance and Information Directorate’s EWARS program with 147 laptops, 50 tablets, and 628 mobile phones to strengthen the disease surveillance system across the states.
