Khartoum: Fully equipped 47 ambulances were distributed on Saturday as part of the fourth phase of the National Ambulance Project, supported by the Arab Bank for Economic Development in Africa (BADEA), at the Ministry of Health headquarters in Khartoum. The project aims to enhance emergency care and referral services in Sudan, marking progress for health services following the plundering of ambulances by the Rapid Support Forces militia.
According to Sudan News Agency, the Undersecretary of the Ministry of Health, Dr. Haitham Mohamed Ibrahim, emphasized the necessity for states to adhere to the distribution map to ensure ambulances reach the most needed areas, maintain donor confidence, and sustain the project. He noted the project’s contribution to saving lives and effectively connecting health facilities.
The Wali of Khartoum State, Ahmed Osman Hamza, expressed his satisfaction with the inauguration within Khartoum State, commending the Ministry of Health’s efforts during the war. He highlighted the importance of continued BADEA support aligned with health sector priorities, indicating that reconstruction work has begun in Khartoum State as part of the Battle of Dignity and support for health infrastructure.
Dr. Mohi El-Din Hassan, Director of the National Agency for Emergency Care and Ambulance, underscored the project’s critical role in improving pre-hospital emergency care services. He stressed the importance of collaboration among concerned bodies to ensure service sustainability and expansion across Sudan.
The event saw active participation from local partners, including the Ministries of Finance, Federal Governance and Rural Development, Interior (Rapid Traffic Police), and representatives from state ministries of health.
