Khartoum: The UNESCO Office in Sudan has commended the active participation of Sudan’s Minister of Education, Al-Tohami Al-Zain Hajar, during the UNESCO General Conference held in Samarkand, Uzbekistan. The office emphasized the strong collaboration between the Ministry, UNESCO, and the Sudanese National Commission across various aspects of UNESCO’s work in the region.
According to Sudan News Agency, during a meeting in Port Sudan with Ahmed Jneed Sorosh, Director of the UNESCO Office in Sudan, and Ayman Badri, UNESCO’s Education Program Officer, the Minister described his participation in the conference as effective. He provided a detailed account of the extensive damage caused to educational institutions by the conflict involving rebel militia and foreign entities against the Sudanese state, including the destruction and looting of Sudanese antiquities.
The Minister also detailed Sudan’s priority needs concerning educational reconstruction, aligning with the Transitional Education Plan prepared with UNESCO’s support. He expressed gratitude for the ongoing cooperation between the Ministry and UNESCO, appreciating the organization’s efforts to bolster Sudan’s education sector. Additionally, he mentioned an upcoming meeting in Qatar scheduled for December 25-26.
