Khartoum: Member of the Transitional Sovereignty Council (TSC), Assistant Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces, Lt. Gen. Engineer Ibrahim Jabir, chaired the meeting of the Supreme Committee for Currency Change and Replacement. The meeting saw participation from the Minister of Finance and Economic Planning, Dr. Gebreil Ibrahim, among other key officials.
According to Sudan News Agency, the committee expressed appreciation for the contributions of banking institutions, the Ministry of Communications and Digital Transformation, and telecommunications companies in supporting banking operations since the onset of the currency replacement process. The committee emphasized the importance of these efforts in ensuring a smooth transition.
Furthermore, the committee issued directives to commercial banks to avoid engaging with groups that conduct business in an usurious manner. Security authorities were also instructed to take appropriate actions against such transactions. The Minister of Finance, Dr. Gebreil Ibrahim, noted in a press statement that the committee addressed concerns from various states regarding a shortage of banknotes. To resolve this, directives were given to ensure banks are supplied with sufficient banknotes, allowing citizens to access agreed-upon withdrawal amounts.
