Khartoum: Member of the Transitional Sovereignty Council (TSC), Assistant to the Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces, and Chairman of the Supreme Committee for Facilitating the Return to Khartoum State, Lt. Gen. Engineer Ibrahim Jabir, has denied reports circulated by some media outlets claiming the dissolution of the Supreme Committee, established under Decision No. 153 issued by the Council of Security and Defense.
According to Sudan News Agency, during a press conference, Lt. Gen. Jabir revealed that the committee's activities had been suspended due to circumstances related to the prevention of executive branch members from participating in the committee's meetings. Despite operating under challenging conditions, the committee has achieved accomplishments such as restoring essential services across vital facilities and residential neighborhoods, contributing to the return of the Transitional Sovereignty Council, the executive government, and numerous citizens to their homes.
Lt. Gen. Jabir further clarified that the Supreme Committee never formed a financial subcommittee. Instead, funds and expenditures for projects are managed directly by the Federal Ministry of Finance in accordance with procurement and contracting regulations, in coordination with relevant ministries executing service projects.
He also directed the Ministries of Finance and Transport to clarify to the public the cost of the maintenance and rehabilitation contract for the Halfaya Bridge, emphasizing that contract signing is the responsibility of the ministries. The Supreme Committee's role is limited to monitoring implementation schedules and the delivery of essential supplies, such as electricity transformers and water equipment, for planning purposes.
Lt. Gen. Jabir disclosed that some ministries had rented premises using foreign currency without the committee's knowledge, stressing that the committee would not tolerate the misappropriation of public funds, particularly given the urgent need for financial resources to cover the expenses of the 'Battle of Dignity' and citizens' needs. He reaffirmed the leadership's commitment to eliminating corruption in all its forms.
