Sennar: The Turkish Cooperation and Coordination Agency (TIKA) on Monday delivered modern fishing equipment to the Ministry of Animal Resources and Fisheries in Sennar State, as part of a series of service and development projects aimed at supporting small-scale producers. TIKA's initiative is a significant step in enhancing the capabilities of local communities in the region.
According to Sudan News Agency, TIKA's Sudan Office Director General, Ghalib Yilmaz, emphasized the agency's strategy of strengthening cooperation with the Sudanese government through productive projects that directly impact citizens' livelihoods. He highlighted that the current interventions primarily focus on agriculture and fisheries, aiming to enable households and small producers to increase their output and income.
The State Director of the General Directorate of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources described the scale of support provided, noting that it included five fully equipped fishing boats, three types of specialized nets, and 150 fishing rods intended for recreational purposes. The assistance package also encompassed safety equipment, including 16 life jackets and eight lifebuoys, to ensure the well-being of those using the equipment.
Director General of the Ministry of Animal Resources and Fisheries in Sennar State, Dr. Mawahib Al-Amin, expressed gratitude for Turkey's involvement, lauding TIKA's focus on fish farming and fisheries as vital economic components of the state. This collaboration is seen as a boost for the local economy and a means to enhance food security in the region.
In addition to its support for fisheries, TIKA extended its assistance to the agricultural sector. The agency provided the Ministry of Production and Economic Resources in Sennar with improved seeds and agricultural equipment aimed at benefiting smallholder farmers. This contribution is expected to strengthen the agricultural output and provide sustainable livelihoods for local farmers.
Engineer Nour-Eddin Dawod Musa, Director General of the Ministry of Production and Economic Resources, regarded the support as a substantial contribution to the state and a testament to the historical ties between Sudan and Turkey. The cooperative efforts are anticipated to foster economic growth and development in Sennar State.
