Riyadh: The Syrian Arab Republic has officially recognized the Republic of Kosovo as an independent and sovereign state, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates announced Wednesday, following a trilateral meeting in Riyadh that included officials from Syria, Saudi Arabia, and Kosovo.
According to Syrian Arab News Agency, the decision followed discussions aimed at strengthening mutual understanding and exploring avenues for bilateral cooperation, including the question of diplomatic recognition. In a statement, the ministry emphasized that the decision reflects “Syria’s consistent support for the right of peoples to self-determination” and its “commitment to promoting peace and stability in the Balkans and globally.”
The ministry further stated that the move aligns with Syria’s diplomatic vision of building constructive partnerships and broadening dialogue with countries across different regions. It expressed appreciation for the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia’s efforts and its role in promoting dialogue and convergence of views, which contributed to creating favorable conditions for this decision.
Syria is looking forward to establishing formal diplomatic relations with Kosovo and advancing cooperation in political, economic, and cultural fields to serve the shared interests of both nations.
