Omdurman: The Director General of the Sudan News Agency (SUNA), Ibrahim Musa, emphasized the significance of World Press Freedom Day as an occasion to reaffirm the commitment to free and responsible journalism. He highlighted its role in promoting public awareness, transparency, and supporting stability and development in Sudan.
According to Sudan News Agency, Musa made these remarks during the 54th Press briefing organized by SUNA in collaboration with the Global Space Center. The event, held at the Cultural Center in Omdurman, was themed 'Press Freedom Between Professional Discipline and Commitment to Journalistic Ethics' and featured several media specialists.
Musa acknowledged the cooperation with the Global Space Center and welcomed participants. He stressed that journalism transcends mere news transmission, considering it a national mission and professional trust that demands adherence to credibility, objectivity, and ethical standards. This ensures a balance between freedom of expression and responsibility.
He pointed out that the challenges in the global media landscape require reinforcing the concept of 'responsible freedom.' This concept balances the right to access information with adherence to professional codes of conduct, protecting societal interests and enhancing trust in media institutions.
